Floors & Surfaces

Choose a method that suits the material under your feet. Start with the gentlest suitable method, and always check the care instructions.

TIP 01

Clean Finished Hardwood Floors

01

Remove grit with a soft broom or a vacuum attachment approved for wood, then use a lightly damp microfiber mop.

02

For stuck-on soil, use a cleaner approved for the floor’s finish at the recommended amount.

Take careAvoid steam, standing water and vinegar unless specifically permitted by the floor manufacturer.

TIP 02

Clean Luxury Vinyl Flooring

01

Sweep or vacuum grit, then damp-mop with a vinyl-safe cleaner following the dilution directions.

02

For sticky spots, hold a damp cloth on the area briefly and wipe gently; rinse if the cleaner requires it.

Take careAvoid abrasive pads, wax and steam unless your flooring manufacturer explicitly approves them.

TIP 03

Clean Ceramic and Porcelain Tile

01

Vacuum or sweep loose soil, then mop with a pH-neutral tile cleaner and a clean mop.

02

For greasy residue, choose a tile-and-grout-compatible degreaser and rinse as instructed.

Take careCheck decorative finishes and grout compatibility. Too much cleaner can leave a slippery film.

TIP 04

Care for Marble and Natural Stone

01

Dust with a soft cloth or dry mop, then use a pH-neutral cleaner labeled for your stone.

02

Blot spills quickly and dry the surface. For stains, ask a stone-care professional about an appropriate poultice.

Take careVinegar, lemon and many bathroom cleaners can etch marble and limestone. Avoid abrasive scrubbers.

TIP 05

Clean Laminate Floors Safely

01

Use a dry microfiber mop or a suitable vacuum attachment to remove everyday dust and grit.

02

For marks, apply laminate-approved cleaner to a cloth or mop as directed and wipe with minimal moisture.

Take careDo not flood seams or use steam unless approved. Swollen boards usually need repair rather than more cleaning.

TIP 06

Clean Painted Walls and Trim

01

Dust first, then try a lightly damp soft cloth on washable paint and dry gently.

02

For greasy fingerprints, use a diluted cleaner approved for the paint finish, working on a small area at a time.

Take careTest behind furniture. Flat paint can burnish or wipe off, and melamine sponges can remove paint.
